Go with the Dolby Stereo audio on this one. Being a suspense thriller from 1963, we don't get to see precisely what he does, but the screams should get your imagination sucking air through its teeth. Whether we are supposed to infer that the non-French characters are fluent in French or all of the locals are speaking English for their benefit is neither certain nor particularly relevant. Skin tones are true to life, and the film's expert lighting from cinematographer Haris Zambarloukos who worked with director Kenneth Branagh on the first Thor comes across beautifully on this transfer. The Gorgon It's sometimes nice when your expectations for a film — which are based on little more than films that have gone before — are undermined by what actually unfolds on screen. Once again, the image is sparkling clean and a fine film grain is pleasingly evident. For all I know director Paul Grey could be a lifelong teetotaller and have grandchildren now, but the unusual amount of male full frontal nudity in the film, not to mention the excessive amount of drinking that goes on Hal and his dad being rarely without a glass in their hands does paint a mental picture of its maker as a serious alcoholic and closet case. If possible, I'd give it zero out of ten points - probably less.
Granted his methods might be a bit unconventional, but at least he gets the job done. To expound on Grau's bizarre combination of the ridiculous with the realistic, I'll describe the villains of the piece in more detail: sporting a range of clichéd motorcycle gang outfits accessorized with matching swastika armbands, the gang's appearance brings to mind the imbecilic Black Widows from Clint Eastwood movie 'Every Which Way but Loose', whose nefarious plans were constantly thwarted by Clint and his orangutan with suitably comical results. It's bad in the big scheme of professional dubbing, but if you've seen Premutos or any other poorly dubbed film that benefits from such crazy dubbing, this will only heighten your viewing experience. Cheekily self-aware without ever crossing the line into parody or spoof, the script reimagines traditional 60s spy conventions, playing off audience expectations while, as the director points out in the included special features, turning the dial firmly to eleven. A flick with a double revenge story, karate guys fighting biker Nazis, lots of violence, sex and sleaze. But then I read that people had issues with how awful the dubbing was. People in my town took this film to an almost cult-like status though- all because of one man: Stileto. A rich, simple, evolving thriller with some subtle undercurrents. Sure, limbs are severed left and right, and a few dirty jokes are thrown in here and there, but despite all the juvenile remarks and graphic bloodshed, the filmmakers never once forget their manners -- making this one of the most polite movies to ever feature a man getting his body split in half. Popeye or any character will ramble on about stuff when it seems unnecessary to do so. The results are terrific, particularly during action sequences and or anything music heavy. This post-modern deconstruction of the spy franchise is brutal, bloody, and a blast from start to finish. Mad Foxes reverse engineers your brain, its the funniest movie I've ever seen.
