The vehicle has not bee diagnosed by the dealer. A seemingly unavoidable problem experienced by some Prius owners is uneven headlights. The failure occurs mostly in dark conditions. They include 4 pieces of trim that all pop out, one philips head screw, and depending on where you put the sensor, one speaker grill cover. The vehicle identification number was unavailble. I did not think this was necessary since if you want daytime running lights, and are willing to turn on a toggle switch, it seems as though you could just put the headlights on using the headlight switch. So, I don't know what to do.
I am going to call dealership and see what they say but from what I've seen online it looks like there is no hope for getting any help repairing this problem. This must be a design flaw and Toyota has not responded to the many complaints that they have received on this problem. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection where the technician stated the headlamp failure was common. As such, I did not use it. I have a few questions though. I was at the dealer trying to price a bulb and verified the light was not working.
I have planned to drive this car, which I love, for quite some time. Generally, headlight adjustment is necessary only when headlights are replaced. Think of it this way. Note that the module containes a toggle switch. The Touring Edition brings a sportier appearance and feel to the Prius.

I connected the two wires from the relay to pins 20 and 12 of connector L47 attached to the headlight switch under the steering wheel. I was lucky that day.
This is not a big deal though. The current and failure mileages was 56000. So far, I've driven exclusively during daylight hours, using my parking lights as highway compliance. The first two times were covered by warranty - all subsequent failures I had to pay the cost of replacement. Alternatively, it is the roundy, curvy, plastic piece that touches your left foot when it is on the floor footrest.
Now I had a problem. Very unsafe situation on rural roads at night! I wanted this feature so I kept the wire. Fortunately was only a few blocks from home at that point, so when I got there I tried turning lights off and back on - they came on bright and immediately dimmed but stayed on , which was normal. Toyota needs to fix this--it is a safety hazard. Both relay sockets are connected to the main module with a 3-wire plug. For space and fuel efficiency, the 2008 Toyota Prius can't be beat. .
Well, 10,000 miles later, I'm in Seattle, and headed back across the Canadian border. For example, during sunset, the lights turn on about 10 minutes earlier then I would normally turn them on. The first decision I had to make was how to connect the wires. A few days later, the failure recurred. A garage door or the side of a building in a parking lot work well for this. The fellow there took a look, fumbled around a bit as though he'd never seen a Prius before. The short version is that after consulting with their master mechanic they 'haven't heard of a problem like this' and would need to run some tests to find out what could cause it.
