Warranty consists of 3 years free replacement plus 2 years prorated. The Ion has a standard transmission and that was the problem. This was covered under the extended warranty that we had. The whole coolant reservoir tank needs to be replaced to fix the problem. Now my car has to be towed to a garage, to be fixed. The battery is not dead as all the lights work for the car but the key is not working.
I was at a red light and the car engine shut off. I had aaa come out, they told me that I need to have the car looked at. On several occassion while it has been cold out, my vehicle would not start. It is not just the Ion. We recommend changing the battery in Saturns every 4 years.
When I give it more gas the clicking noise becomes more rapid. Battery is vented to outside of vehicle. I am so sick of my car that I am ready to sell it. So they tightened it and the car popped right off and all the flashing warning lights disappeared.
Any auto parts store Advanced Auto, Checkers, Pep Boys sell batteries. It is usually when it is cold outside. If so equipped, there will also be another computer in front of that, which controls the automatic transmission. I refuse to pay for it, but in the meantime my car continues to not start if it is zero degrees. On top of low prices, Advance Auto Parts offers 2 different trusted brands of Battery products for the 2004 Saturn Ion. I read other complaints too and am glad that I have not ran into their problem yet.
They are really making a bad product that they will eventually never sell again. I have heard several other issues with other vehicles. I called Saturn last week. Not single mothers such as myself! An easy fix but the car sat in our garage for 6 weeks as we couldn't find the solution! Saturn has issued a technical service bulletin on this problem because it is so widespread and pervasive of a problem. It kept flashing and then the coolant light came on and it wouldn't start. Otherwise it will be towed and I will receive a rental.
If it starts, replace the starter. No matter the situation, Advance Auto Parts has the Battery product you desperately need. If so how would I check to see which one it is? I have talked to other people who have had similar incidents and they stated that it was something to do with the ignition switch. The battery was fine and well charged. The only way it would stay on is if I held down the gas.
This has happened so many times in the winter that I finally got sick of it and parked the Saturn and drove a different vehicle. The car would work for a few weeks, then the same issue arises again. Although some batteries last much longer, most batteries begin breaking down chemically after four years, so you could experience dimmer headlights and other negative effects before you have a dead battery in your Ion that you need to replace. This is not the first time I have had this problem. I can not believe that there is not a recall on this part. This was in may of 06.
If you have any doubts you may be better off taking it to a tech so that the job is warranteed. It was a bad sensor. Battery is vented to outside of vehicle. After reading the first 20 some results and seen that everyone was having the same issue I was. Replacing the battery in your Ion involves removing the terminals. That same winter, my car would not start in the cold again. The steering wheel will turn, but the key will not. I waited 15 minutes and tried again and it would not turn on. The car would not start.
