You could also possibly use a wedge type box for a regular cab and put it under the back seat. There is a shop in my town that builds custom boxes outts fiberglass that works pretty good. I have one 10 behind the seat of my standard cab. Pioneer makes a … model 6870R that fits perfectly. . Bass is very good, airspace was perfect for my 10 inch alpine and it hits tight and hard. Maybe search for downfiring box or something like that. But I have an Alpine type s in mine and with the grill it fits snug but well behind my center console.
And fyi - there are a couple great videos on youtube on how to take the doors apart to replace said speakers. Speakers Ford Explorers utilize an oblong speaker 5x7 or 6x8. All I know is that I will take functionality over subs any day. It is a hair wider than the center console, but still leaves plenty of room on either side for passengers.
